BlueTriton Brands and Arrowhead® 100% Mountain Spring Water have been generous supporters of the Chaffee County Quilts of Valor chapter in Buena Vista, Colorado for the past ten years. The company donated $2,000 this year.

“We could not do this work without BlueTriton’s support,” said Linda Lafford, who has been quilting for Quilts of Valor since 2005. “The donations they provide help us purchase our fabric and pay for the postage to ship the fabric tops and backs to the quilters who create these beautiful quilts.”

The process of making quilts for veterans is a lengthy one. In Buena Vista, for example, the quilting volunteers finish their patterned and colorful quilt tops, the backs are then made for each quilt top and then sent off to the Long Arm Quilter. When that part is finished, the quilts are returned for the binding work and then Mrs. Lafford sews on a label with the veteran’s name, dates of service and military branch. The quilt then goes into a presentation case and is either presented in person to the veteran recipient or mailed to them. Special to Colorado, every graduate of the PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) Program at the Denver Veterans Affairs Hospital receives a Quilt of Valor.

Since 2005, 1,285 quilts have been made in Buena Vista, Colorado and the group has grown from nine people to 15. “Making quilts for our veterans has become my passion,” said Mrs. Lafford. “It is what I was put in this community for.  Quilting for veterans is the most awesome and rewarding task I have ever done.”

BlueTriton and Arrowhead® have donated more than $10,000 to the organization since 2014.
