BlueTriton Brands employee completes wellness coaching course through Pure Life® partnership

Robert Galvan spent four years in the U.S. Navy. He worked in the engine room of the USS Mauna Kea and USS Anchorage as an engineer to keep the ships running! After his service, Galvan joined BlueTriton Brands in 1997. He has held many roles within the organization and is now the Field SH&E Capability Manager.

In April 2023, he spent 14 days in Arkansas to complete the University of Health and Performance’s Integrative Health Coaching course. Galvan’s Director of SHE (Safety, Health & Environment), told him about the course and asked if he was interested. Galvan replied, “YES! I’m going to UHP in Arkansas! Wait. Arkansas? It was beautiful, by the way.”

BlueTriton Brands, through its Pure Life® Purified Water brand, partners with the University of Health and Performance and the FitOps Foundation to support veterans in rediscovering their purpose after their service in the military. Both organizations provide educational support, research, and entrepreneurship opportunities to veterans and active-duty military seeking careers as health and wellness coaches.

Before traveling to Arkansas, Galvan completed 15 hours of course work to prepare for the curriculum at UHP. When he arrived with 21 other students, he quickly learned the daily schedule was jam packed! The day began at 6:00 a.m. with physical fitness training which included agility work, weights, running, and hiking. Having been out of the military for 25 years, Galvan was concerned about the physical fitness portion. With work and family, he says he doesn’t run or go to the gym like he used to anymore, but he wanted to be a team player. “After a week into it, I was getting up extra early to run on the treadmill. I was running laps in the gym! Everyone was like, look at this guy go!”

After the intense workout, Galvan had an hour to get ready for the day. Classroom training began at 9:00 a.m. and didn’t end until 5:00 p.m. Galvan said some days were extended until 8:00 p.m. to make sure the workload was covered. After class, students had the tasks of wiping down equipment in the gym, taking out the trash, cleaning the classrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen areas. He says his time there came with a lot of emotions. With a family back home in California, and wi-fi almost nonexistent, he couldn’t communicate over the phone with his wife and children like he normally would. It was a tough transition but one he got through.

Galvan officially completed the program and is now certified as an Integrative Health and Wellness Coach!

Galvan says this course has allowed him to become a better leader in his role at BlueTriton Brands. “There is a profound correlation to physical and mental well-being so leading with empathy while developing and enabling others, this allows us to strengthen our organization by strengthening our associates and our ability to support at all levels.”

He says the company has always supported him.

“I know firsthand how difficult it can be to find meaningful employment after serving in the military. That's why it means so much to me that our organization actively seeks out and hires veterans,” Galvan said.  “I am proud to be a part of an organization that recognizes the value that veterans bring to the workforce.”

The Pure Life® brand funds scholarships for veterans training at UHP so they can complete the course at no cost.

The Pure Life® brand has launched new packaging on over 200 million cases of water across the United States that highlights its commitment to supporting veterans.
