Deer Park® & The South 9th St. Italian Market Festival to End the Debate of Who Makes the Best Philly Cheesesteak – at Least for 2023
As Deer Park® 100% Natural Spring Water celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, the brand is honoring community traditions. What could be more iconic to Philadelphia than the cheesesteak? Deer Park partnered with the South 9th Street Italian Market Festival to sponsor the ‘Deer Park Philly Cheesesteak Contest’ on May 20, 2023. The event not only paid homage to Philadelphia's rich culinary heritage, but it commemorates the brand’s long-standing presence within the community. Deer Park also donated $5,000 to the charity of the winner’s choice.
Philadelphia residents sent in dozens of nominations as to who has the best cheesesteak in the area. With the help of three judges, Eagles legend Jeremiah Trotter, morning show host on 96.5 WTDY, Michael Bennett, and Philly’s hottest young chef, Chance Anie, owner of Tabachoy in the Italian Market, Lorenzo’s Pizza was named the winner of the ‘Deer Park Philly Cheesesteak Contest.’
“Philadelphia has always been important to Deer Park Water so we’re proud to sponsor this contest and be a part of the Italian Market Festival this year,” says Grant Cowherd, Senior Brand Manager for Deer Park. “We wanted to bring all the top cheesesteak-makers together at this incredible festival and have them compete, one-on-one. We’re not expecting to settle the debate forever, but on that given day, bragging rights will go to one of Philadelphia’s legendary shops.”
In addition to bragging rights and a cheesesteak trophy to display proudly in their restaurant, Lorenzo’s Pizza has chosen Eagles Autism Challenge as their charity of choice.
